I rec. a "customs invoice notice" from DHL express for "customs duties and taxes incurred on shipments imported to the USA". Has anyone else run into this? |

May be a scam. I received an e-mail from "DHL" that stated that I had a package waiting and I needed to download and complete a form. Since I was not expecting any deliveries, I deleted it. |

It is charges for entry fee, customs fees, document fees, clearance/filing fee, and usually interest for fronting the customs fees |

The couriers seem to like to gouge when it comes to cross border customs/brokerage fees... if the shipment is possible w/ USPS/Canada Post, there is an included $5.00 brokers fee (which is usually $50+++++ from couriers) within the basic charge - so no surprises once shipment is received... Also good to note would be that used and Made in USA/Canada goods are not subject to duty, but packages need to be clearly marked as such, so as not to be charged, and then having to try to convince a robot that the charge was unjust... |

My point was, I believe that scammers are using the "DHL" name to obtain personal information. You may want to check the spelling and grammar in the e-mail carefully. |

Check the email address as well. I had a different scammer (Internet domain name and keyword scam) email me recently to try and extract money and info from me. Problem was his email address was a hotmail one...hardly kosher for a domain name registration company! I ignored it, plus the emails from the company he told me was going to register my website name for itself. This scam emanates from Shanghai, an earlier one came from Hong Kong.
A scam is a scam is a scam.
OTOH, when I ship anything into Australia from o'seas, I get an invoice from a customs clearance agent, usually via email, as a pdf. I ring the phone number and verify the goods condition, customs clearance paperwork all cleared and (very important!) verify the address for delivery. When I am satisfied all is in order, I pay the fee and the goods are delivered.
For example, my last import item was a marine chronometer from the Indian shipbreakers. It was opened by Customs, a clearing agent did the clearance paperwork, they emailed me, I checked it was all OK, paid the invoice and now the chronometer is sitting with three others, quietly clicking away the seconds. _________________ The steel guitar is a hard mistress.
