A few weeks ago I came online here to seek the donation of a pedal steel guitar for our high school music program. I knew it was a long shot, but I figured it was worth taking a chance...

Well...

Just wanted to let all know that today, Jim Palenscar donated a beautiful pedal steel guitar to our high school music program. His thoughtfulness and generosity exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations! He said he was just excited to see that we were attempting to share the joy and magic of the steel guitar with some young musicians and only too happy to be a part of it. What an amazing and incredibly kind gentleman!

And hey, I had the opportunity to hear Jim play a few licks - Holy Smokes! This guy has some super chops! Whoa!

Thanks to all of you for your support! And especially thanks to Jim for his kindness and support of music education!

Jim, you ROCK!

Thanks again!

Dr. Buddy Clements

But really, what a great gesture and great gift. My hearty applause. Very Happy

Hey David you will appreciate this. I have, as you know, your old Sierra Session guitar. A few of the screws that retain the string on the keyless tuners were starting to strip and I called Jim to see if he had any parts or suggestions. After finding that he did not have any tuner fingers for a Session he suggested drilling them out and going to 8-32 screws and proceeded to drill one he did have and tap it while I was on the phone with him to make sure it would work out! This is way beyond anything like customer service and I just can’t say enough good things about Jim.

Jim has helped me sooooo much in the 30+ years we have been friends. Recently, I have been a real project for Jim and he always says to me get your guitar up on the rack. I actually buy stuff from time to time too... He is such a fun hang and is a righteous, humble soul... Did I mention brilliant? Enough leg humping here.. Jim, I need my 2nd string to .......

Jim has helped me greatly in the short time that I have known him,his knowledge of the pedal steel and it's workings are vast. He has provided support over the phone and thru e-mails and has shown extreme patience with me as I've asked a lot of questions about various things, is easy to talk to and wants to make sure his customers are happy.Oh and by the way he is a great player. He has one of the most interesting shops I've ever been in, and a well stocked supply of non-pedal steels and pedal steels and other various stringed instruments, supplies and educational material. There are very few individuals with his experience above and below the guitar!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I have had good fortune in my life and believe that it should be passed on. It is truly my pleasure to share the joy that this instrument has given to me over the last 40 years and I look forward to be able to continue on for the foreseeable future.

Jim has also been known to occasionally feed the multitudes with leftover Thai, and can function as a sort of regional Dr. Phil for the lovelorn and whiny members of our small community.

But on a more serious note, & to put it simply, they just don't come any cooler than Jim.
And, that dude can PLAY that thang!
I'm always in awe of him when I get to hear him play, even if it's just a couple licks.

You know yer on my fav list, Doc.

Very happy for the school kids who'll be enjoying that geetar. Awesome.

Sorry I never made it back in before I came back to Michigan from Oceanside but I will see you next year...RS
