Hello there all, I'm gonna be in Austin from Sunday the 27th til the afternoon of Friday the 1st. I'm getting there just in time to catch JR Brown at the Continental Club at 6:30, then Heybale right after that! Gonna catch Dale at the Broken Spoke on Wednesday too! Any other suggestions? Gonna see if I can catch some of the Stone River Boys too, especially since their steeler (Gary Newcomb) used to live up here.

Do any stores carry steel guitars down there? I would love to get a chance to play some different ones, I've only really played three different steels, and I own two of em! Any other ideas, like places to eat, cool stores etc... would be very welcomed! I have some friends down there to show me around, but am interested in you all's opinion....even if it is unrelated to steel guitar. thanks FOBROS!!

It may be a little late to reach you, but I'll be at the Broken Spoke from 6-8pm with the Tony Harrison Band. Great horn section and the excellent Jake Langley will be on guitar.

3201 S. Lamar, 78704. "Last of the true Texas dance halls, and damn sure proud of it."

That's their story, anyways, and they're stickin' to it.

Bob and Herb, thanks for the info! I'm sorry I didn't catch either of your gigs. Bob, I shouyld've wrote down the time of your gig, in fact I probably did, but promptly left it at home. So, Murphy's law, right when I get back to my room from a daylong trek around town at 5 to clean up a little, I text Gary and he tells me the gig is right then! Doh!! Would love to hear what you guys are up to in that group.

Herb, I didn't check in on this while I was there, obviously didn't take a laptop or anything, or I would've been ALL OVER seeing you play! You were definitely on my list to see, and I'm honored you replied to my request for info. I did see Dale's last Wednesday gig there, and Don Don was playing great!

I saw alot of variety of music, honky tonk, reggae, garage rock, funky Texas flavored R'B, Ac. Singer/songwriter stuff.... and was really impressed with the musicality of alot of the players. Everybody seemed to really be about the songs, and not trying to do their own thing over the top. Seems like a good songwriters town, for sure. And a good town for collaboration, not just gun-slinging. But, maybe I just got lucky with the acts I saw...

Thanks again guys for the replies,
Dave
