It' frustrating... I'm trying to figure out Jimmy Day's steel break in this tune, and every time the tune comes to the steel break all I can do is sit back and listen... _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |

Ray, I don't know if this will help at all, I only listened to it a couple times(all the time I had). Thought this was pretty close. Of course he played quite a bit more on the break. I think I could use this with a little embellishment. Dick Sexton...

This is a basic take on this break, not knowing what his copedant was, is pretty much how I would play it. I might add some embellishment, but this is pretty close.

On a modern 10 string E9, which I don't think Ben Keith had then, the first 7 bars would be on strings 4,5,6, using just the A pedal. Then in bar 8, mash both pedals on strings 3,4,5.

Thank you all for your responses and information.
And thanks for correcting me that the steeler was Ben Keith. For far too long I thought it was Jimmy Day.
I find the steel break fascinating. I have found a location on the C6th neck where "sound alike" tones can be made, but the run at the end of the break is elusive.
Earnest, that looks like it might work. Thanks a bunch.
Thanks again. _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |
