I have been using my new Telonics Pre 1000 I picked up in Dallas and I must say it is fantastic. The Eq is voiced perfectly for Steel and any tone from thick to thin can be dialled in easily. I run it through a Telonics pedal into a pair of TC Furlong Split cabinets which makes a light weight awesome sounding set-up. Like all Telonics products, it is built to the highest standards and built to last. Also Dave and Stacey take customer service to new level where nothing is too much trouble. Great gear and great people, highly recommended. |

Hi John, I agree with you, the Telonics pre is superb sounding and very flexible. Dave and Stacey are great people, nothing is too much trouble for them to keep their customers happy. |

I agree with you all.
I am looking forward to playing it this weekend at a very large venue so it will be a good test.
I have learned something about the FX routing on the LEXICON which is very important. I will share it with you all when I get the chance to take pictures and explain it. There is only one way to get the direct steel signal to amp with a nifty set up on the front panel on the Lex and then storing the patch to use as your starting point for programming other patches... |

Hi Ivan, just regarding this new Telonics Pre 1000, this must be a very new preamp that's not advertised on Telonics website...??? In which way is it more different than the MK-1 they first produced.
That's the one i've got and would like to upgrade it to a newer version ....so it makes me think a little bit. Can you please let me know ! Thanks !

QUite a big difference Tomi. The Pre 1000 is the ultimate progression from the MK1. I have both and the Pre 1000 is the complete package with an extra channel with separate EQ, Very broad and effective Eq controls, a Dobro simulator, built in reverb and flexible effects routing. Paddy has the Pre 1000 and the power amp as well and will be bringing his rack to the Brissy show. All Telonics gear is top shelf superb. |

Thanks Ivan , that's great news ! Thanks for letting me know ! I guess these preams are not designed to just plug them in to the back of any amp....
This would work the best with separate power amp and speaker enclosures, to build a little PA just for your steel in other words.
Mr John LeMay, thanks for the info , i had a look at the brochure and this new preamp seems amazing. State of the art. All ill ever wanted to have.
I will let you know when i am ready.
You should have packages to offer with volume pedal, preamp versions and speaker enclosures so if someone wants can purchase the whole lot can do in one hit good discounts as a package, just a thought John !
Keep up a great work John !

Tomi, Dave Beaty has just developed some new speaker enclosures to go with the rest of the stuff... and he is now moving in to the world of pickups, so expect some technological advances in that area as well -- with Dave's usual incredible thirst to improve the stuff available for us pedal steel guitarists! I don't think he sleeps at all hehe ! _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

Myself and MD temporally pulled a few plugs and played steel directly through Lex only. It took a while to discover only a direct steel output to amp can only be achieved with routing set to number 2 only. Therefore a single patch was set up and stored with this as a starting point. It was also very important to have reverb POST delay of course. This means that the mix control on the LEX had to be fully clockwise on mix 2 and at 9 o'clock on mix 1. Then the wet dry mix is adjusted accordingly on the Telonics preamp. This is brief and when I get a chance I will post a better description with a video.
Like any new amp set up, it takes a few tweak, on a few different nights to find the sweet spot. Once it's found, it's usually a minor tweak on the blend to adjust for different gigs and maybe treble and presence but very minor tweaks.
The blend control is sweet
There is something on the back I need to alter next time too.
I am searching for new ear drums at the moment.
Tomorrow night is practice night
If a DD2 delay sound was put into a rack mounted unit with an RV2 modded to have direct out ( which is possible I think ) was also added in this rack mounted unit, it would be dropped in to replace mr Lex.
A rack mounted steel mixer with these incorporated.. Now I am dreaming.. |
