AFAIK the Lil' Izzy is/was a impedance matcher/buffer preamp, I don't know what made the "plus" version different.

The Jordan Boss-Tone is a fuzz-tone effect. It was popular with pedal steel guitarists primarily as a way to get a "string section" sound when used with a certain technique.

frank, more simply, the lil izzy basically changed the signal running through your cords from high impedance to low impedance. this gave a cleaner sound because there was less signal loss when going through effects boxes and longer cords. clearer less muddy sound. this same circuitry is used in the goodrich 10k volume pedals, making them a favorite of mine.
