I am trying to help and old friend of mine who has a
Fuzzy 8 string psg. He bought it new in Tokyo back in the mid 60's. He was on a uso tour then. He never played it much from what I can tell. It's been around a while. And in his closet for many yrs.
He does'nt remember the tuning or copedant...
I think it may be an E9th but not sure from just seeing the picsl It has only 3 pedals..no knee's.
Is anyone out there familiar with these old steels?
Here's a couple of pics.. from what I can tell if it is an E9th... looks like a Jimmy Day pedal setup..
In need of help to figure out the tuning..string gauges and copedant etc. He said that he sent pics before to Mitsuo Fuji from Excel but no reply...
thanks!!!

It looks like standard E9, Emmons pedal setup, minus strings 9 and 10 |

Hi Richard...it does look like a std. Emmons setup..that other pic was throwing me off.
I wonder why there is no 4 & 8 lower? or just 4 or 8?
maybe that can be added...
Thank you for correcting this for me. I should of picked up on it..but...hahaha brain lock...and being left handed did'nt help either!! Now this makes more sense.
Any idea as to why pedal A only raises string 5 and not 8 along with it?
Thank you for your help! Cheers! _________________ left handed Excel Dl0, left handed GFI UNI 12 Ultra, 2 n.ville 400's, DD3,Lexcicon MPX100... |

The standard A pedal raises strings 5 and 10. It doesn't have a 10th string.
Is he interested in selling it? _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

thanks Bob, i keep forgetting it's an 8 string setup!!
I will ask my friend if he's interested in selling.
He's the same guy from Sarnia,Ont. that had probs logging in to the forum a while back.
His name is Ronnie Fray. He used to tour a lot back in the day. Ran with Gatemouth Brown for a while too.
Got on Austin City Limits with Gate twice.
ahhhhhhh.. the good ol'days~~
I wonder why no knee lever to drop the E's? Is that normal for an 8 string? Thanks again!! _________________ left handed Excel Dl0, left handed GFI UNI 12 Ultra, 2 n.ville 400's, DD3,Lexcicon MPX100... |

the first crossrod could probably be adapted to a knee lever for lowering Es. will need a lever and two pullrods and whatever. |

I would suspect given its' era much like the old Fender 400's, it was possibly tuned to a D9th. |

That's what I was wondering too. He does'nt remember the tuning. I have'nt had the chance to get up to see him. The steel has been tucked away for many years. He told me that one of the pedal rod's is not perfectly straight. I think if it's not too bad that it can be fixed. He want's to get it up and running again. He played a lot of 6 string but pedals threw him off..so i guess he stashed it. I think he'd like to sell it when it all together. It would be nice to have a knee lever on it.
I think it may be a one of too...according to what he remembere Mitsuo telling him back in the 60's... here's a pic from that day in Japan circa 66 or 68?
Ronnie Fray and Mituso sitting behind the same steel.
OMG...I JUST NOTICED THAT IN THIS PIC THERE IS A 4TH PEDAL!!! YIKES...MORE INVESTIGATING... THE RECENT PIX ABOVE DO NOT SHOW A 4TH. EVEN THE PEDAL BAR HAS 3!!
