I tried to put a missing jack nut on my grandson's guitar but found the nut to be a bit too large. It looks like a regular 1/4" jack. Could it be metric? I will just replace it but was wondering why the nut didn't fit????

1/4" guitar jacks can even be a 5/8" (I think) outside diameter.

In other words they are indeed different try a few types maybe even a nut from a cheap radio shack jack.

I wouldn't be surprised if yeah it's metric as America and Americans are falling out of fashion.
