recently I quit cigarettes and start smoking pipe, I have been smoking pipe off and on, for the last 20 years, but the last couple weeks I spent enjoying a bowl of fine pipe tobacco here and there. I have to say that I really enjoy it, and world of pipe is so much more interesting than the one of cigarettes. Smoking a pipe is more like a hobby than anything else, unlike cigarettes, which people smoke when they are nervous or stressed out, pipe is smoked when people are relaxed and they want to sit down and enjoy a few puffs of some great smelling pipe tobacco. There is so much out there to learn about pipes and pipe tobaccos, the whole little world. How many of you enjoy a puff or two of some vanila flavored smooth cavendish with your morning cup of coffee and what is your favorite pipe/tobacco...?

I smoked a pipe for years, and had a lot the same enjoyment.I smoked Cherry Blend and Captain Black.Good stuff and pipe smoke doesn't get stale the way cigarette(and cigar)smoke does. There's a caveat, though.Pay real close attention to your dental health-tar from pipe smoking tends to collect below the gumline and make trouble,so whatever you use to remove plaque, use it more. |

I started smoking a pipe about 35 years ago--it's how I quit cigaretts. I smoked mostly Borkum-Riff, had some nice pipes, etc. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it became a habit where I was carrying pipes, tobacco, cleaners, and tools everywhere I went. I finally gave it all up after 5 yrs.
If you can keep down to something you do now and then, it's an enjoyable passtime. I couldn't do it. |

when I was back home , about 20-25 years ago, I got my first pipe and some tobacco, pipe was plastic and tobacco was terrible, today, there is some pipe makers making some beautiful pipes in Croatia, these are "DOTTER" pipes, made in Samobor, Croatia near Zagreb.

Duck Dunn, John Coltrane, I think Freddie Roulette? the bass player in Spinal Tap, lots of pipe smokin' players.
I smoke a pipe, but I haven't in a few months, but now I want to fire up a bowl! I have a collection of about 20 brair pipes, mostly Italian and Danish, a few USA and English pipes, mostly my dad's old collection, all lovingly mainained, all good smoking pipes. Dad smoked St. Bruno flake, but I have never been able to find that here in California. I occasionally get a tin a Dunhill, but mostly smoke the bulk stuff they sell in cigar shops, always smoked non-aromatic English style tobacco.
It's the thinking man's smoke, or at least smoking a pipe will lead you to many hours of pleasent thoughts and meditation. It's quite loveley and relaxing, and I am sure that the health benifits of the stress reduction that comes with pipe smoking outweigh the health concerns of using pipe tobacco....at least that's what I tell myself.
Cheers!

I'm a long time pipe smoker. I've got about 60 or so, and buy, sell and trade. I recently sold a box full on ebay for pretty good money. I have a bunch of Ascorti's and some Castello's and Caminetto's and many other brands. I smoke English blends, with Latakia. The great thing about (good) pipe tobacco is that it doesn't contain any chemicals or preservatives, and you don't have to inhale to enjoy it. When I was on the road I used to search out nice, scenic places to have a relaxing smoke to while away the time and reduce the stress. When I was doing a double on Broadway I'd go down by the river and have a smoke between gigs. There used to be a Tinder Box pipe store at Rivergate Mall and I'd spend the afternoon there sometimes playing chess and smoking with the owner. _________________ C#

Our buddy, Slim Yamaguchi (Mark Chesnutt's steel player) has a real cool looking pipe that is somewhat flat and has a hinged stem. It folds pretty flat and he carries it in his pocket. |

Started smoking and collecting pipes when I was 16, much to the dismay of my parents. Only bought 3 or 4 new, the rest are all estate pipes and such. I have around 300 at last count, my favorite brand is Savinelli. Oldest one is an English pub pipe (clay) from around the late 17th century. I smoke no more than once a day, and I never inhale. Heh-hem.
What's ironic is that I'm severely allergic to cigarettes. _________________ Scott Shipley Facebook |

Archie, thanks for your input, but I don't understand your comment, why are you posting under the topic for people whos hobby is pipe and they enjoy it...? if you want to start an argument about pros and cons of smoking, you are very welcome to do so in the topic you start... btw. everything you do in your life gives you a "certain embouchure", from eating 3000 calories cheeseburger with fries to driving your car to work every day... and trust me, every pipe smoker has much better chance to die in the car wreck than from mouth cancer....you want a good advice? start smoking a pipe and using a city bus....

No pipe. No cigarettes. No tobacco. But I go through a lot of rolling papers. I'm a completely legal, CA state card carrying medical marujauna user. If you are at all interested in learning about the medical benifits of useing pot do a YouTube search for Rick Simpson or Hemp Oil cancer cure. I don't have cancer but if I did I'd be very glad to learn about this. Cancer is an industry. |
