I have seen this question ask, and answered several times. I still don't understand how to interpet the serial number on my MSA Classic. The serial number is 2C1885. It is a double 10 with walnut formica. I would like to know when it was built, and any additional infornmation available. I know it was built between 1971, and 1983. I bought it on e-bay from a man in Loiisanna. Any information will be appreciated.

Larry.....MSA records show serial number 2C1885 to be a rosewood double 10 which left the factory with 8 pedals and 2 knee levers. It was originally shipped to our distributor at the time who was located in Chicago. They would of course sold it to a music dealer, but our tracking ends in Chicago. Your guitar was born on Feb.1st 1974.

| Reece, I'm sorry I know you have better things to do than look up serial numbers but... I have an S-12 Classic 1C2167. I'm the 2nd owner, I believe the steel was purchased originally in New York. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks, Allan |

Thanks Reece for the information. The previous owner had taken it apart for cleaning, and mostly put it back together. After two days installing screws, and rods, and a lot of adjusting the steel in working fine. It is well built, and in good shape, especially for the age. Thank you for building such a good insturment.

Hey Reece, I would like to know about the MSA D-10 I've had for years (2C5216), and the S-12 I just aquired (1C3710). I understand that the S-12 was modified. Thanks in advance.

Sammie K....2C5216 shows to be a walnut color double 10 which left the factory with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers. It was originally shipped to Peavey Electronics in Meridian Miss. The exact date of completion was not entered into record, however production records state it was completed in June of 1976.
Serial number 1C3710 shows to be a white tidewood single 10 which left the factory with 5 pedals and 4 knee levers. There is of course a discrepancy concerning the number of strings shown in our record entry and the number of strings on the guitar. I can only guess it to be likely an invalid record entry was made by MSA. It was originally shipped to our distributor at the time who was located in Chicago. This guitar was completed on November 5th 1974. |

Joe C......Your MSA shows to be a dark blue double 10 which left the factory with 8 and 4. It was originally shipped to Ralph Hanzel Music in West Allis Wisconsin. Sorry, but the specific date of completion was not entered into record.

Barry W....Serial number 1C5233 shows to be a walnut color single 10 which left the factory with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers. it was originally shipped to Bill Payne's Music in Florida. The guitar was born on November 7th 1976.
Tyler S....2C5105 shows to be double 10 SS. It was originally shipped to the Music Mart in Georgia. Even though the specific date of completion was not entered into record, they do specify it as being completed in March of 1976. |
