anyone remember Colleen Peterson? i listened to some of the old album (first one) yesterday and it knocked me out.
colleen was a canadian singer, pre-judds era, with the best james burton and jaydee maness accompanyment you'd want to hear.very soulful singer....not many people i knew were familiar with her. 'go through the motions' was a great tune!
second album had red rhodes and al perkins on it. first album was best.

I remember her well. She grew up in the Ottawa area. In the late 60's she was in a folk rock band called Threes A Crowd. It also included David Wiffin and Bruce Cockburn.
Her solo records sounded great. I believe Chris Ethridge of the Flying Burrito Brothers played on at least one of them. I remember a band I was in back then did a great song from one of her albums, the song called "The Closet Thing to You". Unfortunately she passed away fron cancer about 10 years ago. |

Chris, I remember Colleen well - saw her perform live in Kingston, Ontario a few times and visited with her on several occasions. I was just speaking about her with a former bandmate of hers the other night. I loved a lot of her stuff, and I think I still have her records on vinyl. The first album was called "Beginning to Feel Like Home" as I recall and was recorded in Nashville _ I remember Lloyd played on that one. The second record (recorded in LA) actually included the song "Beginning to Feel Like Home", complete with a killer JB guitar solo. The Manness/Burton combination on that album was as good as you'd expect it to be. Last time I saw Colleen was at Expo 86 in Vancouver - she was just playing solo there, and I was with the sister of an old band member so we went and visited with her for a bit. Before she passed away she was part of a group called Quartette, with among others Sylvia Tyson. Which album credits Red Rhodes and Al Perkins - was that "Taking My Boots Off"?

yeah bob...takin my boots off. the one with jd and james was just called 'colleen peterson'. also had sneaky pete on some...but it's the jd stuff that's really great.
i never heard the nashville album with lloyd, i guess. i'd like to hear it. |

ethridge was on radio in meridian a few months back and made mention of her talent, when he was ask about who he had played with in that era.

| Looks like some of that material was re-released on cd, but I can't find anywhere where copies are available. My vinyl copy of the Nashville alum was defective -pressed off centre - and as a result I didn't listen to it as often as I'd have liked to. It was a good record - I'm going to look around more for a copy. |

I sure do remember her. They used to play her records on CKBY out of Ottawa (if I remember correctly) and I could pick up that station in Potsdam, NY. Once I heard her voice I was hooked, I have all her albums (LP's) including her later work with Quartet. Very sad that she died so young. Her work withstands the test of time and frequently ends up on my personal playlist.
