After receiving Hal's Zum from Tammy and Brooke at Christmas last year I finally got new legs and pedal rods to fit me and got to play the guitar this past weekend. What a blast it was. Hal's setup is a bit different especially on C6th. I did change two things setup wise but the rest is as Hal had it. Here is a pic.

Hi Johnny, I guess you play the Day setup too? Hal was my inspiration, what a genius he was! If it's not too much to ask, how was the guitar set up?

Would you please post Hal's C6th setup that was on his Zum before you changed it?

Heck, he's married. They are ALL Joan's guitars. Laughing

But seriously, I am jealous Johnny. Although you don't need them, did Hal leave any licks on that guitar?

Johnny can play ANY setup... Laughing

I walked into Bruce's shop for the first time just days after this guitar was finished but not yet shipped. The moment I sat down and played that guitar, I knew I had to have one.

Thank you so much for posting pics of yourself playing Hal's guitar! Brings back so many great memories of our youth my dear brother. I played "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'" with Gretchen Wilson on the Opry tonight. Of course I played it as close to Hal's version as I possibly could Smile .

But of coarse Joan can play it anytime.
We share our guitars. I played it last week still with Hal's setup and strings. But this week I changed a couple knee levers to what I'm used to and put my C6th setup on it. Joan and I play the same E9th setup and pretty much the same C6th. The only difference in our C6th is that I tune the 10th string to D and hers is still C.
Tommy, thanks for your comment. I'm so happy that you and I got to hang around together with our heroes when we were young. We are the most fortunate guys to have had our heroes as our teachers, mentors and friends. This guitar means a lot to me and I know you understand that. I hope you end up with a certain green Sho-Bud one day. You should have that. For those of you that don't already know it, Tommy is like a brother to me and also my favorite steel player, period. Hope to see you at the Opry soon.

BTW, I will post Hal's setup as soon as I can figure out how to get it in a setup chart format when I get home.
