Does anyone know what kind of a organ simulator Danny Gatton used on his guitar ?? Was it an on-board unit or stand alone unit ??

Thanks, Joe

He often used the tremolo on the amp with the middle position (both pick-ups) on his tele and the tone turned all the way to bass and the amp cranked to get a little distortion. He showed this on his instructional video. He made it work by playing the right kind of licks.

Back in the mid-to-late 70s Danny often had an actual Leslie in the D.C. area clubs, with the controls for both the Leslie and his Echoplex in a box mounted on either his Tele or Les Paul (the "Magic Dingus Box").

You can see the box mounted on his Les Paul on the original "Redneck Jazz" album cover (from 1978) here:

I saw Danny a couple of times when he was touring to support the "88 Elmira Street" album. He was using a solid state Leslie (I think it was a model 910) with the power amp disconnected. He was driving it with a Showman Reverb head. He had an A-B box so he could switch between a Tweed Twin and the Showman-Leslie combo.

If you're looking for more info about Danny, Washington, D.C. guitarist, Tom Principato may be able to help. Here's a link to his website and some CDs and Videos he made w/ Danny:

Tom is currently on tour in Europe, where he tours frequently each year.
