I would like to store some musical equipment in my garage.(no instruments) just a rack with effects, furman pedal board, LED stage lights, maybe a guitar amp. This is a standard sheetrocked attached garage, but not climate controlled. Can I do this without damaging my gear from cold/moisture?
Thanks! _________________ Stew |

I have done this for many years with racks, combo amps, keyboards and guitars. I have not had any problems with them if they are in good cases. Any audio electronic devices that are stored for any major length of time, including guitars, should have the potentiometers (volume & tone etc...) turned to a little used position, such as all the way off, to prevent the noise that will come from corrosion of the contactor at the storage point.

I have stored all sorts of equipment (but never instruments) under less than ideal conditions for years.
One small tip is, when you take an item out of storage, take into your house and let it stand overnight before switching it on. This avoids problems that might arise through condensation. _________________ Graeme

Mice likes to chew into Speakers Glue.
They can mess up a speaker.
Take cardboard and enclose well. |

Now that made me laugh! Years ago, I had a dog, several cats, and yes mice. Yes, I used to live in a barn. I still leave the door open. Anyway, after I moved to Texas, I discovered dry dog food that had been stored in my speaker, by the little vermins back home up north. The bass port was just big enough for a mouse but not a cat. Guess they got used to the noise.
They liked the glue too it seems. I did have to replace the foam rings. I still use those speakers in my studio, so no real harm done!

For years my road equipment never saw the house. It was on stage or in the bus bay. Never had any trouble. Hot, cold or luke warm it was always ready to go. BTW who is this luke guy that is always warm? _________________ Whip Lashaway

The only negative I have experienced in the long term is moisture corroding any parts that are susceptible. Maybe spreading a few of those little bags of desiccant around would solve the problem. |
