After screwing around with that squirrely 6th st for the last 20 years I decided to try a wound .022. I realized that I only have a half step raise on it so I had nothing to lose by checking it out. It is a major relief ! I really like it so far. Had do do a little balancing of the changer and get used to a different feel. Not so bad compared to a string that is stable.

I used a wound 6th years ago on my old MSA. It was more stable. I switched to the plain .020 partly because "that's what the pros use" and because the wound string was a little quiet. I've been thinking about trying it again, now that I can compensate with the Tonealigner.

22w on the ZB made all the difference from unmanageable to manageable.

As long as you don't lower it a full step it is great. Lowering it a full step on most guitars makes for a very long throw and it is difficult to time properly with other changes on the same pedal/lever.

Yeah, what Jim said. That's why I stick with the .022 Plain. I really like the Whole step drop, would really miss it.

"Most" is the the keyword. I get a fulltone lower out of some of the single/single changer 'buds I set up. I use Jagwire "Ricky Davis" series with a 22 wound of course.

It's not that they can't be lowered a full step- it's just that a wound 22 going down a full step makes for a long throw and a very tough split to G.

I recently switched from SIT to Jagwire Lloyd Green Arist Series on a Dekley and a GFI Ultra - .022w for 6th.
I lower 6th and 3d string a whole step in parallel on lever, and split for half-step lower with B pedal engaged. Probably couldn't have used wound 6th if I've had split-screws in changer, but no problem with split-rods.

Timing and split work perfect on both PSGs, and the GFI has a lot less audible "body-drop" detuning with .022w for 6th. The (original) Dekley is perfectly stable, and sounds better than ever with the overall slightly heavier strings.

I ran wound 22 for years and went back and forth on wound and plain, i finally settled on a .20 plain, it took the 'bong'out of the 22 plain slightly, and stayed in tune better even though it is lighter.
I could not convince myself that a lighter string would help especially on a sho-bud. I currently been using those D'addario XL pro steels, work wonderfully.
