Hi, many thanks, I have had a few requests for the track, so I have put it on the website. This is a nice practice track and is very similar to the LG version from the 'Revisited' album. In Lloyd's version, the fiddles take the 1st half of the break after the key change, I have played it on piano instead.

Posted 9 Feb 2011 2:35 pm Hi again. RE:- ShoBud sound.
I done two online sessions tonight for two different people.
I used the shobud on both.
Just the shobud and telonics pedal with no FX, no boxes or steel mixer, just steel, telonics, then iMac. And it was sweet. I have spent many hours tweaking this and that on the old guitar making things comfortable and taking slack and rattles out of most all the pulls and lowers, and adding a spring here and there underneath to help and it really does take a lot of beating for sound. Don't get me wrong, I love the rains and will always own and play one but for an old intstrument that has to be treated with respect, it really does the job well. The only thing is the pick up. If you block hard above it, it will get picked up with an audible 'thump' but it's acceptable and can be allowed for by different blocking technique and moving down the neck a bit. These guitars are really good and I will certainly use it more in the future for recording. I have forgotten over the years that sometimes, old is just as good as new! ( if you know what I mean ). Not me, the guitars. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Posted 9 Feb 2011 10:30 pm Hi Bill,
Bill, I have set up a minidisc player/recorder in there. It's sitting right next to me to my left. It's to record the rehearsals of myself and John. So, to answer your question in full, the signal path is steel/steel mixer ( that has boss DD-2, RV-5 and Hilton pedal on it ), into a small Alesix Multimix 8 mixer and then into the minidisc recorder via a stereo out from the desk. By the way, we are monitoring very loudly through the large PA speakers in situ high up on shelves behind the red sofa. In fact, I have a habit of winding things up too much. There's many occasions I get out and my ears are ringing. I know, it's not good but I like to feel the bass and drums as if it was a live band. This video and coalminers daughter were recorded early on Monday morning, I got up for work, logged into the phones to discover I had a rest day planned in, so, I went outside and had some practice. Having the PA loud makes the mice run that are above the ceiling in the outbuilding, in fact, playing any of my music at any volume does the trick too.. Ha..
John is coming tonight so I will keep that level on the shobud I think when I record the session. The minidisc recording is obviously transferred to the computer in the house to complete the video.

Hello David, nice work, you are a master at it, I need to play that smooth with out pausing, my tempo tends to be irratic, how do I play smooth like that, are there exercises you do to help develope your smoothness?, you are another Jeff Newman and Buddy Emmons. |
