Topic: Alumitone into a Webb is too loud? |

I must first say that i love my tone at higher volumes. But, I play in three different bands, all with different stage volumes. I Have a Williams 700 U12 with an Alumitone pickup that I play though a '90's Webb 'Galaxy 250' piggyback that has a distortion circuit as well as a '614 preamp' it is missing one thing that the other 614's have: input sensitivity. The output on the Alumitone pickup is HOT. I am already using the 'low' input. Wish I had an 'even lower' input.
For the loudest of my bands volume is set at 1.5, the next quietest: .8 (ish) with the right volume being a tiny tiny place in the pots sweep which is also frustrating, and it's just plain too loud for the quietest group. I love the the tone of this amp and the pickup and don't necessarily want to have to buy another amp. But I am frustrated and would love some way of possibly attenuating my signal before it goes into the amp without changing the tone.
Another idea I had was using the effects loop with a pad? possibly from a DI?
i have already replaced the volume pot on the amp with one I got from Tom Bradshaw that I thought might have a better curve and or allow me to make finer adjustments in the beginning of the sweep, but it didn't help. Any ideas or similar experiences are most appreciated! |

| You need another volume control on the guitar. I have used a second volume pedal to solve this problem. An old pedal with a scratchy pot is OK since it won't move. |

Yeah, less distortion!
More seriously... I only did it when I was using a stomp box that my pickup was too hot for. So I don't really know. |

| You also might try an EQ stompbox that has adjustment for the level out. You can shape the tone a bit, or leave the sliders flat. |
