For their latest album, Chris Funk (guitar) plays pretty healthy dose of pedal steel. Sounds really nice! Great vocal help from Gillian Welch too. For those who don't know, the Decemberists are a Portland, OR based indie-folk/rock band. Until now, there wasn't really anything country about their sound. They wear it pretty well! |

I bought it on impulse the other day, at Starbucks. I liked it too. |

We like Chris a lot! He often shows up in the middle of some exquisitely fine musical moments. He listens, you know.... |

Is there no end to the number of steel players in Portland, Oregon? |

It sounds like he's come a long way as a steel player in the last few years. I remember he played a little steel on one of their first albums and it was tasteful as his playing always is but on this new album he actually sounds like a steel player. it's cool! _________________ What's that weird twangy slide thingy? |

Chris also played some real nice pedal steel on "Sun is King" from Laura Veirs' "July Flame" CD.
Just heard the Decemberists disc for the first time today. Sounds great. |
