Seems like I've seen a post somewhere about this issue. I've got a 74 p/p and it's got a crack by the changer on the top side of the guitar, is this a big deal?

My '75 had a crack in about the same place, but it was repaired when the cabinet was refinished several years ago.

Ben,
I have heard more than once from techs that this is common and not a problem beyond cosmetics, and that there are probably cracks in the same place under mica that you can't see, but on lacquer guitars you can see them.

Ben, Cliff gave my exact answer. Most of the lacquer pushpulls I have seen have at least one crack behind the changer. There is a small amount of wood there and it is weakened by the changer bolt holes. When I refinish one, I run a table saw blade thru the crack and glue a spline of maple in it and sand it down level.
