I've never watched a DVD on my PC until about a week ago.

I have W7 Premium Home and I'm using stock WMP (v.12+) for viewing the DVD.

The quality is excellent.

My only "gripe" is that I would like to expand the viewing screen even larger than it is now. ie. Fill up my entire monitor without the 1.5" black bar at the top and the 1.5" WMP taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
I looked all around to find a button, but to no avail.

Almost a full 1/4 of your viewing area is lost to these two black bars.

I'll guess right now that there is no way to furthur increase the viewing area, but if I'm wrong (again), could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks evr-body

Thanks Andy,

All those options were already tried, and again, to no avail.

Thanks again.

Chip;
Have you thought about applying the same fix many car owners use when a stupid warning light stays on all the time? Just apply a strip of black tape to the top and bottom of your monitor screen and the annoyance will disappear!

Wiz,

In a similar vein, I have placed tape over the thumbnail of a jigsaw puzzle I would be doing, cuz otherwise, it's analagous to do doing a Xword with a dictionary by your side.

Show me the jigsaw puzzle I'll be doing and then get rid of the thumbnail. They all seem to be the same today. When you do the puzzle, there's the thumbnail right there in the margins. That's no challenge.

...well it looks like I'm answering my own question (again).

Thanks Buck-Oh Very Happy

I guess basically, cover up what you don't want to see.

Isn't that what we both said? In a way??

Sometime's I don't when you're serious or not, Wiz.

Oh Well

I was referring to doing online jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

Do you see the "blank space" above and below because the format is wide screen? If so, that's generally the outcome when you have a monitor that doesn't support full screen on a 16:9 letter box movie.

Perhaps I am wrong... Just my thoughts...

Chip:

Try the widely available "Media Player Classic", which will play virtually anything.

It has a "video frame" choice on a menu through which you can override the aspect ratio and allows these choices:

full screen
half size
normal size
double size
stretch to window
touch window from inside
touch window from outside
default
4:3
5:4
16:9

One of those choices will force the pic as large as possible.

In my experience, on a divx file, it will either force the picture to absolutely full screen or to maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch borders, depending on the file.

Another highly regarded player is "VLC", also free. I haven't tried it, but hear good things.

Pound Google to find the download; should be easy. Try Softpedia.com, CNET.com, or FileHippo.com.

Get version 6.4.9.0 or 6.4.9.1 of Media Player Classic.

Mitch,

Howdy, good friend.

Thanks for those tips and links.

It's a bit late tonight for me to proceed, but I certainly will, manana. Smile

A friend sent me "The(1)Complete First Season" of
Two and a Half Men....

So I'd like to get the full effect of this DVD. Laughing

Thanks also, Chris.

I have an older monitor. It's a 17" LiquidVideo. It's definitely not one of those newer wideish jobbers.

Mitch,

I just installed MPC, and it is much better than WMP(having more options), except there is no audio.

I'm still finagling with it, so maybe I have to find and poke the right button. Confused

I got rid of MPC and installed VLC. Much better for me.
There's AUDIO.

You can lock it up Wizardo, if you so choose; and thanks all, again, for the help.
