What would cause a laptop to completely lose a CD drive like it was never there. It doesn't even show up in my computer. Thanks Ken

You might try uninstalling it from the device manager and restarting the computer, it might come back. Just a shot.

If the CD drive is removable, remove it and reinsert it. Sometimes the connectors become funky and a reinsertion might restore good electrical contact to the pins and sockets.
