Can someone please tell me the effect of lowering the 5th string, I think it is half a tone?
Maybe some advice on where it can be used in a song?
And lastly, I do not but seldom use the 2nd string lower, so would it be a benefit to instead use the 5th string lower? (I have only 3 levers)
Thanks for all your help gang!
Pete Shaw

I switched my 5th and 10th string lowers over to 6th and 3rd strings and find that a whole lot more useful.
add in the 2nd string lower and you get a real nice minor 9th chord.

Thanks Tim.
Will have to see if I can find hardware for my old Dekley
ie; rods, allen screws etc etc. Then can make some changes.
Pete

hey pete, I don't know anything about how a Dekley is set up,on my Mullen I just moved the rods over and repositioned the bell cranks to line up with 3rd and 6th holes in the changer, I didn't need any extra parts.

You are right of course.
To keep the raise I must leave the existing rods, then get 2 rods for the lower function on the 3rd and 6th strings. However I will need connecting hardware
to secure the rods to the bellcrank, may be hard to find Dekley parts, not sure yet.
Also will need 2 of the plstic tuner caps at the end of the steel.
hanks again, Pete

Pete,
Many folks have the 5 lower on a vertical lever, often on the left side.
E9 setups often lower 10 too, though Universal 12 often just lower 5.
If you dont have it, many of the same changes can be accomplished by half pedaling the A pedal.
The change is often used to get a diminished chord with the E lower lever in combination with the A and B pedals.

The 2nd string lower is actually a very useful change to give you a dominant 7th note. I'd keep that!

Tim,
I put 3 and 6 lower on pedal zero on one of my guitars.
It seems pretty useful with other pedals and levers as an alternative to the Franklin change.
I am still learning to use the Franklin pedal.
I tend to use it by itself mostly though.

I asked about the 3rd string lower on my Franklin when I had it built. I was told it wasn't advised because of the long throw needed to lower the 3rd. I have the 6th string lower and have never missed not having the 3rd string lower.

I lower the 5th and 10th with the Left Knee Vertical, as most do.

Thnak-you Jack, and nice to hear from you!
I think you are right to not lower the 3rd, as you say, a long pull!
I will be looking into mods if I can find Dekley parts.
Thanks again Jack. Pete

Pete, the change I use most often with lowering the 5th string is a split with the "A" pedal. I mash both A and B pedals down and then lower the 5th string (this makes the 5th string (open) a "C" note). Open with the AB pedals down and the 5th string lowered that makes an A minor chord (4 minor).

Hi Jack,
I am not sure how the lower will work if A & B pedals are down. My old Dekley is all pull I believe, so I don't understand how the 5th string will lower if the A pedal is down? Maybe I am a little slow on the mechanics! Question
Thanks , Pete
