Ok, so I've been wrestling this beast daily for 3 months weeks now, had 3 live lessons, and all I really needed to sound like a pro was a KISS t-shirt?

Here are some quotes from one of the best teachers in the world. "In one week's time, you can knock this sucker out and play anything you want! One week's time, boom you're done. We are going at it from a guitarists point of view using terms such as the 1/4/5. I didn't realize the number system was exclusive to guitarists. I nearly aspirated my coffee falling out the chair.

He goes on "if you want to go listen to someone that's great, go listen to Paul Franklin. But is he a good teacher? I dunno............ Then exalts himself as being one of the best teachers in the world! I doubt that delusional crack head even realizes that Paul was on the road with Jeff Newman back in the early 80's teaching week long seminars and did quite well with his talk series tapes. I guess it's just easier with that inept con artist approach at misguiding some poor naive folks.

What I heard was "By far" as the answer to his own question "Am I the best player in the world on any instrument?"

That's enough for me... no need to say how good or bad anyone else is. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I agree with him on ONE point. If you are a fairly good guitar player and know the instrument well, that is a HUGE plus to learning steel. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Been here before - http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=190518

From the video - "In one week's time, you can knock this sucker out and play anything you want."

John W. - totally agreed. I think this kind of attitude stems at least in part from a very limited view of what actually constitutes "playing a pedal steel guitar".

Even funnier was the person's suggestion on the other thread, link provided by DM, that a poster take away his opinion on the topic and start their own thread about the flip side of the same coin.
