***SOLD****SOLD****SOLD****SOLD****

$875 with hard shell tweed case. $29 Shipping

I built this custom Tele in my shop in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The unfinished body, featuring a book matched curly maple top and back on an end matched ash center was crafted by Jeff Neville. I finished the body with aniline dyes and nitrocellulose lacquer.

The 21 fret one-piece birdseye maple neck is from Musikraft. It has a “chunky” V to C Profile--.89” at the first fret, .96” at the 12th fret. It has medium 6105 frets, and single action truss rod. The truss rod adjustment is at the heel. The nut width is 1-5/8". The fretboard radius is 9.5". The tuners are Genuine Kluson vintage style. I cut and installed a bone nut.

The pickups are Bill Lawrence Keystones (If you buy this guitar and have a set of pickups that you prefer over the ones I have installed, send them to me and I will install them and give you a $70 credit for the Keystones. A $35 installation charge will be deducted from that credit. Bottom line: if you provide your own pickups you can deduct $35 from the price of the guitar.)

The electronics on this guitar are fairly standard: CTS pots, Orange Drop Cap, Switchcraft output jack, Fender 3-way switch.

The bridge is a Joe Barden vintage 3-barrel compensated bridge. The Joe Barden bridge is my favorite because of its ease if installation and intonation.

Included with this guitar is a brand new hard shell Tweed case manufactured by Tradition Guitars.

Every guitar I build is one of a kind, with a unique look and sound. I usually turn out one of two VZ Custom guitars a month. I use only top quality components. This guitar is as good as or better than any $1,200+ cookie-cutter factory-built guitar.

Any guitar is only as good as its setup. I spend a lot of time setting up VZ Customs for optimal playability. I set the action as low as possible without encountering fret buzz. I set the neck for minimal relief. The nut slots are cut for optimal distance between the bottom of each fret and the first fret. I always check for high frets and level if necessary. I check fret ends for smoothness. The final step in the set up is to check the intonation of each string and adjust where necessary.

If you have any questions about this guitar, please ask. If you want a more detailed picture of anything, I will try to oblige.

This guitar is for sale on Ebay for $875 plus shipping. If you buy directly from me because you saw it on the Forum and pay via PayPal or Postal Money Order, I'll save the Ebay Total Value fee and pass that saving on to you. The direct price is $825 with free shipping. (Of course, the standard sales commission will go to the SGF.)

I will be buying a Tele from you one of these days.

Thanks, Ron. I hope you'll be adding a VZ Custom to your axe collection in the not too distant future. Whenever I finish a guitar I always list it on the Steel Guitar Forum because I know the world's greatest gearheads live here.

A very pretty guitar with lots of whistles & bells; but all in all, just another counterfeit Fender.

Hey Keith, tell me how you really feel. Wink

Actually, it would be a counterfeit if I called it a Fender. I don't.

It is indeed a Telecaster style guitar just as a PRS Single Cut is a Les Paul style guitar and a Suhr is a Strat style guitar. I certainly don't put myself in the same class as Paul Reed Smith or John Suhr, but I hope you see the distinction.

I would be so bold as to say that my VZ Custom guitars compare favorably with Fender Teles, but since I build only a couple a month, I don't think Fender has anything to fear.
