I've always seen the jack on the end or on the player's side. Is there any reason I shouldn't put the jack on the edge away from the player?
thanks, Ron

The only reason not to put it there is looks, I guess. I can't think of any problem it would cause in terms of playability or function. _________________ John Allison

You can put the jack anywhere you like. It's best to position it so that the lead keeps out of the way of your right hand while you're playing, and putting it close to the pickup means less routing out of the wood. Of course, if your lap steel is hollow you won't need any routing at all. If the instrument is going to be played on legs you can put the jack underneath. I don't like to do that because it means you have to use the legs or the plug can rub into your lap. |

Thats some beautiful walnut, as good as it gets and bookmatched is a nice touch
For a non console style, I generally but the jack away from the player and not on the very end. If on the end, you can't set the guitar down and lean it up against the amp if the cord is plugged in. _________________ Some misc pics of my hand crafted steels
