| Randy Lindley here. New member and guitar player for Miss Leslie & Her Juke-Jointers. Well, I hope you guys can help me out here. Ricky Davis, who plays steel in our band, and who is no stranger here to the forum, had a very unfortunate thing happen to him last night. After our gig in Pasadena, he decided to stop and get a motel at the Motel 6 @ HW 290 & 34th for a rest. He went to his car this morning to find that someone had broken into his Jeep and stole his custom Fender Black Face Twin head and custom Sho-Bud cabinets (one JBL orange-label D130 and one JBL K130) all covered in green tolex and gold cloth grilles (yes, just like Lloyd Green's rig). Along with that, they took my recently acquired '57 Fender Single 8 Deluxe Stingmaster (12/57 date and serial no. 000746) and Ricky's Walker seat, which included his bar, picks, cables, tuner and strings. Fortunately, Ricky's 1973 LDG was left in the car! I'll have Ricky post some pictures of his amp shortly. I will be posting some pics of the Fender steel, as well. I would appreciate you Houston guys keeping a look out for these items at the local pawn shops and music stores. I guess it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out on ebay, too. Hate to hear about Ricky's or anyone elses equpt being stolen.
In Houston the murder and violent crime rate is up by 50% over last yr (which means it's probably more than than from what they don't tell us), and is spreading to the outer suburbs since the 2 hurricanes hit the southern coast last yr. And to make matters worse, the Houston police force is minus 700 police officers since last yr due to attrition and retirements. Three yrs ago I ate breakfast with some of those officers. What an education I got! A word to the wise if you are gigging in Houston, don't leave anything of value in your vehicle and if at all possible, find a hotel/motel outside of Houston/Harris county if you can and even that won't be much of a guarantee against theft and robbery. |

this is horrible news..
Please guys, the next time you park for the night..take into the room with you all of the items you cannot replace...
Sure it may take several extra minutes but it sure beats the morning shock.
I sure hope all of these items show up back in Ricky and Randy's possession soon...

Man I'm sorry to hear that. Seems as though stuff like this always happens to the nice guys. Ricky and gang I'll sure keep an eye out hear in North East Texas. I hope you guys get your stuff back and I hope they catch the scumbag that did it. Sure would have been great if the band was standing there quietly behind the guy when he backed out of the Jeep. Hurrican crimewave no doubt.

If they were dumb enough to break into your vehicle, I wonder if they're dumb enough to try to sell them on e-bay?

I am so sorry to hear that! I can relate to the feeling as my playing bag (with volume pedal, matchbox, electronic tuner, picks, bar, chords etc.) was stolen out of my car about two years ago. My car is parked in a public garage which is locked at night, nevertheless it happened...Since then I always take the extra time to carry everything into the apartment.

Ricky,
I am so sorry to hear about this, man I would like to catch someone doing that, where's my rope. This is some kind of world we're living in today. Hopefully they will try and sell this stuff on ebay or somewhere else and they will get caught, for all the good it will do. I wish you the very best of good luck finding them again Ricky.

| Get a rope, horse & cattle steeling is still a hanging offense here in Texas, maybe, just maybe we can get a steel guitar friendly law maker to pass a law that any body touches a mucsicians gear, should be taken and hung from the nearest tree. Or maybe while the hanging takes place they can play steel guitar rag on the gear they recovered. Boy that just really ticks me off. Sorry to hear about that guys, if they try to pass it here in the Fort Worth area, will find it. |

Thanks everyone for the big Hearts...I appreciate it.
I refuse to be mad and refuse to consider the thought of the Theif(s) in this deal(letting them have the power over my emotions). Yes I do hope the stuff turns up and that was my lifes work putting that rig together; but my biggest sentiment is my LDG and I have that(oh and my Golf Clubs); and as horrible as it feels to have your stuff stolen; I will move on and rebuild.
James Morehead; is already sending me down from Dallas; via, Steve England> a amp and speaker Cab and sho-bud chair and some assessories(God bless his soul)and my friend Jim Lutz who plays with Billy Dee here in Austin as offered up the same and then some..>So I will be able to play my gigs starting tomorrow> thank you thank you thank you guys.
TONY gave some Solid; Solid advice everyone; please take note.
And sure; I can give you the circumstances of my situation that happened but they would only be excuses....and there is NO excuse that will mend the heartache of this happening. Take it from a road worrier who plays around 300 dates a year with NOTHING going wrong in close to 15 straight years of doing it.....>it can and will happen; just take Tony's great advice as much as you possibly can.

| Ricky, my heart goes out to you bud--will be on the watch here in the Oklahoma City area---as we're right on I-40, would be a possible stop to "unload" at one of our many pawn shops...James, great gesture on your part to get Ricky back up and running---you're a gentleman! Of all the rigs to be stolen...... Jeez. I let out an audible sigh when I read this post. The greatest rig I've ever seen on the forum has been stolen. What a drag. You have the right attitude, Ricky. Don't let 'em get to you.
I too use a Sho-Bud and Twin, and would be devastated if someone stole my rig.
I'll be praying for its safe return. Hopefully its unique appearance will make it easy to identify, and it will eventually fall into the right hands.
At least the LDG wasn't touched.......I knew there was more than one reason for the weight of the double body. |

Ricky I Have a walker seat that ray give me on endorsment that im not using in fact im using it as a computer chair im sure Ray would be glad to let me send it to ya if you need it .. if you need anything at all dont hesatate to call or Email me i have a profex II and a Dpc 750 power amp you are welcome to as well if you need them until you get back in the groove .. we are so sorry this has happend and we missed you in dallas this yr ..

They can take your stuff, but they can't steal your friends. Ricky is rich with great friends, and he has already bounced back from this tradgedy-----his personality has a built in virus scan against negativity! HA!! Hang tough, buddy!!
Now if they would have taken that LDG, you can bet your sweet country pickin' picks we would be forming a posse as we speak!

Ricky...You're a great player with a great attitude ! I really enjoyed hearing you on that rig when I was down in Austin . If it shows up in L.A. ,I'll be happy to bring it down personnally !!!...(for a few lessons, of course).I'll keep an eye out for sure.

Man that really sucks. Stealing from a musician is the lowest of low. I spent the night in Houston last week with my rig in the back. It really makes me nervous, but what do you do? It's really not practical to haul your gear in your room at 2:00AM. Especially if it's on the 2nd floor. I guess the only solution is to go buy a cheap steel, amp and a drum throne, and only take those out. Leave the good stuff at home.

I am so sad to hear about Ricky's gear getting stolen, heartbreaking. I always carry my gear to my hotel room no matter what the time, floor whatever. What's more inconvenient, hauling your steel and amp just a bit more or having to replace them, which as we know, can't be done? I leave my music stand and a tow hitch in the back of my truck, and that is it.
I have noticed that bands that come through NYC and have trailers have taken to attaching what the Brits call "a boot" to one of the wheels when they park, I am amazed that pro bands don't do this considering the dollar value of what's in those trailers.
I do sincerely hope Ricky gets those cabinets, his stringmaster, and that head back.

| Sorry to hear this, Ricky. About a year ago someone broke in my house and stole my Fessy S12U, Vibrasonic amp head, POD XT, and a small mixer. It hurts, but you'll replace the stuff, and life and the music goes on. |
