I've got a little SD-10 SKH LeGrande that I'm tinkering with. I'm starting to think this guitar is older than I had thought. Can anyone help me date this thing? It's # 276. Thanks guys.

I'm thinking the end plate was stamped 83ish. The year it was finished depends on several factors. Color being one.

I've only been able to verify 383 of the original LeGrandes. I'm sure there were a few more built. There are a few short keyed custom ordered Lashley LeGrandes, LII's, and LIII's.

Mine is #149L and it's late '83 and I know #232L is May '84, so yours should be late '84.

I have a D10 SKH serial #370 (no "L"). I have no idea of the year model. I have been told it was built for Lisa Spears (spelling?) of the Porter Wagoner band.

Thanks guys. I was thinking this guitar may have been a little older than that but 84 sounds about right. I got this guitar from a buddy of mine that passed away. This was the first Emmons I ever saw and the guitar that made me want my first Emmons. Its a great sounding little guitar but its totally gunked up. I know it lived in a club for about 25 years. I just got it torn apart and am gonna totally go through it. It's gonna clean up just like a new one. I'll post some pics when I get it put back together. Thanks again guys.

Tyler, here is mine after I rebuilt it. Undercarriage looks new but I don't have a photo of it at this time. I just played this guitar tonight at a benefit for victims of Cincinnati, AR. tornado that hit last month.

Jerry, is your guitar white or a powder blue? I was thinking it was white. I've only seen Lisa's guitar in club lighting. It was the 1st LeGrande I ever sat behind. I played PP's till Oct 1990.

To provide some context to this SKH question, I have 77L.

Ron & Becky Lashley graciously provided me with information identical to the question above in re: SKH dating:

"this PSG was built in May of 1983"....It was sent to a gentleman in Abeline, TX.......

You should be able to somewhat deduce from a confirmed month (May, 83) relating to 77L, as to when your SKH was built. TX

Rgds,

Ron

Wayne, I have 095 L. I assume mine is probably still 1983? Do you think that is likely?

Mine has black pedals, comb changer, small case.

So- does anybody know how many SKHs were made, and through what range of years?

And more importantly, why did they move to the longer keyhead?

I have both a SKH (about to have 2) and a Lashley LeGrande. I've never head the same kind of pickups in both guitars at the same time, so I can't really A/B them. I can't say one is particularly better, although I think the SKH has slightly snappier pedal action- but that could easily be choice of bell crank holes, lube, etc.

I do really like the 2nd string half stop system on the SKH- it uses 2 rods and provides a crisper feel that the one on the Lashley.

Its funny how companies will keep on "improving" their products..not that there is anything wrong with later Emmons guitars, but the SKH worked great, so why fix what ain't broke?

I've never seen the need for cabinet drop compensation either. Seems like a solution to a non-problem.

Chris, I'm pretty sure yours is an 83, because I got mine in the summer of 83. Great guitars.
