I lower my Es on the right knee (RKR), but it has nothing to do with knee problems.

RKL on all my guitars -- push pull and all pull

Most of us who started out on Sho-Bud or MSA guitars (and, as Dick mentions, others as well) had E to D# on the right knee. Buddy Emmons started the trend with that change on LKR and E to F on LKL but not all major players (e.g., Paul Franklin, Lloyd Green and others) followed suit.

Never any knee problems here either.

There have been many discussions of this topic. Do a search.

thanks for the imput guys
I tried several times to do a search
but could not get what I wanted
ive always lowered es on the left but in recent years after having both kness replaced
I get a lot of pain after a time in the left knee
and leg right leg seems fine and I was thinking about changing the knees around.. on a pp this can be
costly so I wanted to get some views on the subject
so I may change my all pull and give that a try
thanks Mike Very Happy

RKL for me(old Sho-Bud guy). If I ever join the U12 club, I think I'll be glad that's where it is. I'd hate to have to hold in the E lever with the left knee in 6th mode.

I do have a "tricky" knee from an old surfing injury, but it only gives me trouble when carrying my boat anchor of a D-12 Dekley sometimes. Oh Well

I think the confusion lies in the fact that the poll asks, "how many lower there Es on the right side", and then the poll gives options

- "how many lower on the left side"

- "how many have knee problems"

RKL here. Knees are a bit weak from a youth spent as a baseball catcher, but not insurmountable. I also think E lowers can be made workable on either knee. If you don't like putting E=>Eb and E=>F on separate knees, you could put E=>F on the right knee also. Personally, I prefer them on separate knees.

Hi Mike!
I switched from the left knee to the right knee many years ago. I've not had any knee trouble, but I just like it better this way. It only took a few hours to get used to. I lower my "E" RKR and raise my "E" RKL. I setup all my guitars this way. Both Push/Pull and All Pull.

I wouldn't hesitate to relocate the E lower lever to the right side if it would free you up to play easier without fatigue. My first steel was a sho-bud crossover and it had that change on the right knee. It only had that knee lever and one other that lowered the second string. When I got my next steel it had both the E raise and E lower on the left knee and it felt good there so thats the way I have had it ever since. I could get used to it again on the right leg pretty easily if necessary.

I have had 4 guitars in my life. The first two lowered the E's RKL. The last two LKR. I liked the RKL a lot better. It just allowed me to get from lowering the E's to raising the E's so much quicker and smoother. I never had any problem switching from one to the other so I don't think you will have any problem adjusting and I think you will like it better.
