Happy New Year everyone! It's hard to believe it's only 2 months away, but please mark your calenders and try to join us in March, at the The Texas Steel Guitar Association's annual convention!!

http://www.texassteelguitar.org/jam.html

The hotel is next to the airport...it's very convenient. The Sheraton Grand is already full. The official satellite hotel is the Holiday Inn Express, but there are many hotels in the immediate vicinity.

We've had great response with the Non-Pedal Sessions the past few years, and this year we'll be back at the 2011 Jamboree with more great music and fun all day on Fri and Sat (March 11 & 12, 2011).

Last year, Rick's widow Cathe graciously paid for the entire event, and this year she's making a donation toward the show; however, we need to rely on donations and sponsors to keep the event a yearly gathering. The alternative to private donations, sponsors, and vendors is to charge a fee to get into the room. My goal is not have to succomb to charging admission to the event. As I've said previously, charging admission has its complexities and headaches that I don't want to deal with. Rick wanted people to be able to come and enjoy the music, as do I...maybe you'd like to just peek in for a few minutes, or stop by for an hour or two...or even hang out with us for the entire two days! This event is to celebrate the steel guitar...it's simply for the preservation, encouragement, and enjoyment of a musical artform.

This event has been growing every year, and we always have lots of fun. We hope it will continue to grow. The club has been very supportive. Last year they donated some amps, and this year they have given us 5 vendor tables to help bring some revenue. The hotel charges the club for the tables, and the club rents the space out to vendors. There are lots of great items around the hotel...guitars (pedal and non), amps, strings, CDs, bars, picks, and other accessories.

Mark Roeder (pronounced "Raider"), was our very first vendor last year. He makes high quality custom built stands for lap and non-pedal steels. He'll be back again with us this year; and has graciously donated $1000 torward the event!! Whoa! Very Happy Very Happy Wow!!!

A big thanks and mahalo (as they say in Hawaii) to Mark for being a primary sponsor for the Non-Pedal room! This will basically cover the cost to rent the two rooms that we have the music in (we are considered vendors and rent those rooms, even though we have nothing to sell to recoup our investment like a vendor would). But we still have many other expenses in order to put on the show. I've talked to Herb Remington, and he should be joining us upstairs this year, too. That still leaves 3 tables open, so if anyone would like to get a vendor table, and join us up in the Mezzaine of the hotel, please email me for details.

We also need some help with back up musicians. I'd like to have pool that people can choose from, so the musicians don't get worn out from playing too long. They are all volunteers, so if you play bass or rhythm guitar and would like to be available in case players need back up, please let me know. There are also a few playing slots left, so if you play steel and would like to perform, the sets are 30 minutes, which includes set up time. Please bring chord charts for our hardworking musicians. All styles of music are welcome and encouraged, to show the different facets of the instrument.

We'll have open jams both nights...everyone and anyone is welcome...please bing your instruments. There will be some familiar faces, and some new ones. More details to come. Howard and I are looking forward to everyone joining us!

Very Happy

This will be my second time to the TSGA Jamboree and I am really looking forward to going again. There are so many excellent players to hear that it became a priceless way to grow as a steel player. If you are a newer player there is no better way to meet and learn from such a talented group of players. Both legends and legends to be!

This will be my first visit to the TSGA Jamboree and I am looking forward to playing and listening in the Non-Pedal Room.

I play only Hawaiian music, even though I was born in Texas. So it will be different.

Aloha, Smile

That's great, Brad! Hopefully more folks will follow your lead & join us.

Thanks for your interest John...I sent some info and hope it works out for us.

There are still two available tables. For general information, we don't charge any more or less than what the club charges a vendor for a table. They wanted us to keep the fee the same, so it's fair all around (downstairs vendors won't complain that they could get a cheaper table upstairs, etc.). There are other vendors in the mezzanine area, too...but it might be nice to have most of the NP themed vendors in one place. The hotel is busting at the seams with the TSGA...not only is there no vacancy at the Sheraton, but every convention room and table space gets occupied.

Things can change at the last minute with the schedule, so I may not post it until right before. Plus, I have to coordinate it with the downstairs schedule.

As far as talent, Mark, we've got it! For starters, how about Hall of Famer, Billy Robinson!! Very Happy

Jeff, I'm working on logistics at this point. I intended to split a table with Jim Flynn and still might park a steel or electric in his area downstairs. I believe, though, that'll be in my best interest to have a full table in the NP area and I'm keen on lending whatever support I can to the NP sessions in general. I'll be in touch via email soon.
Thanks

A big thank you to George "Mr. Boards" for his donation to the cause of $25! Very Happy

Also a big thanks to Neil Cameron from England for his donation of $25! Very Happy

Thanks, guys! We really appreciate it.

In order to alleviate some bookkeeping for the TSGA, we now have a seperate email address for PayPal. This will also let me know when there's a donation made, as the TSGA doesn't always have time to email me to confirm each donation (that's why I asked to be emailed when a donation is made, for tracking purposes).

The new PayPal address for donations to the Rick Alexander Non-Pedal Sessions is:

RANONPEDAL@GMAIL.COM

Going forward, please use this email address for future PayPal donations. You can choose to send it as a "gift". If you can, please add 3% to cover the PayPal fees, as they do take a percentage.

The account was just created this AM, so if someone would like to test it out to be sure it works, please do...it should be ready to go!

You can also still email me via the forum link or post a reply here if you make a donation.

So to sum up, here are the different ways people can donate:

1. Cash, in person, if you're coming to the convention (easiest)

2. PayPal as a gift via RANONPEDAL@GMAIL.COM

3. If you need a tax receipt for a large donation (such as Mark Roeder's), you'll still have to send it to the TSGA. We are under their non-profit umbrella (it's too expensive and too much red tape to create a non-profit status just for the NP Sessions).

4. Checks & money orders will have to be made out to me (Jeff Strouse) and sent to:

FI Home Improvement
PO Box 166
Ocean Beach, NY 11770

But the easiest way to donate, is cash at the convention, or PayPal.

Thanks to everyone for thier support and interest. The only way this event can continue (without charging admission at the door), is via donations and sponsors.

We'll eventually have a thank-you page on the RA Non-Pedal sessions website for all donors.

We appreciate everyone's patience as we continue to find the smoothest way to run things.

Thanks again! Smile

A BIG thank you to Billy Gilbert for his donation of $100!!!!! Very Happy

Thanks Billy, that will really help out. You were instrumental in the donations idea with your original posts.

I hope donations and sponsors can be the primary source of revenue for the event, so we don't have to charge admission. Perhaps if the event were thought of as a 'club' of sorts...but instead of membership dues, enthusiasts of the music music could donate $25 bucks or so a year, to support, encourage, and promote non-pedal steel? I dunno...just passing thought...

Thanks to Mr. & Mrs George for their efforts in the webcast...this is uncharted territory for the NonPedal Sessions, and we hope there will be interest and participation in the casted portions of the event. We'll still be video taping, and will eventually get that footage on the website.

It's hard to believe were only a few weeks away. I'll have a schedule soon...a few slots are still pending.

We're very excited to have grammy winner Cindy Cashdollar with us this year! It was confirmed this week, and we're glad & honored that she'll be joining us for a set on both days!

So how many folks out there still need to book their flights? It's not too late! Smile

Well, only if you guys shave your legs too. It just wouldn't work otherwise. I'm sure your keyboard playing is something that could be worked around. The question is, can the two of you sing?

See you there.
