Anyone know who is playing the pedal steel part on Elton John's Tiny Dancer? I'm a 1-year pedal steel newby - the part doesn't sound terribly complex, although every note is perfectly placed. Any tabs out there?
Regards

I always thought that Buddy Emmons played a few tracks for Elton John back in Emmons' LA days. I'm not sure where I learned that (if its true), and I can't at the moment recall how Tiny Dancer goes. But if it's super clean, sparkly playing with every note perfectly in tune, its probably the Big E on the Blade. |

Thanks for the responses guys. Mr. Cole's style reminds me of Ben Keith's work with Neil Young. Very cool stuff.

I stand corrected. I just located the track on YouTube and Mr. Cole's playing is top notch.
Maybe it was the tone that threw me off. Sure sounds like an Emmons original guitar. (Now I wonder if that is also an incorrect conclusion.) |

Another Elton John song I always liked is "Country Comfort" from Tumbleweed Connection album.

This song is on my desert-island playlist.
Most of the verse is just C & F chords, lots of AB pedal stuff on frets 8, 13 & 15. Simple yet perfect.
Here's my shot at the bridge:(apologies for any errors)

The foregoing is among among my favorite few passages in all of music. Ever.
I bought my pedal steel specifically to learn that lick. Thank you Mr. Cole. _________________ - Mike |

John Jorgenson plays it on an Elton John live DVD (and guitar ,sax, mandolin, and vocals on the rest of the DVD!). Great. |
