Hi ,
I'm in the middle of a project and was wondering about what the best length would be from the actual ball end of the string up to the machine head ? The reason for asking is that I reckon this affects the tension . The tuning might be D6 or a kind of D9 . I am hoping to " choke " the first and second strings a lot so I don't really want a lot of tension in the strings , and I am not particular about cosmetics or a bright tone . Should I focus on the string gauges instead ?

Thanks in advance ,
Ingo.

You should focus on gauge....it is much easier to adjust tension that way,
Mike
