Here's an amp I wound up with buying that was originally on the Forum for sale. When I got it it had a very difficult to find coupling cap issue that severly limited its volume and tone.
Once I got that sorted out and biased up a good set of output tubes, this baby came alive, 47 clean watts!. I then set about finding some aluminium trim, my neighbor helped me out with the small top pieces and I made the bottom 1' piecs from stock I found at Lowes. I recovered it myself in a non original color, I thought the cream would look better on stage.
Here's the before and after pics.

Very nice restoration. I always wanted a standel amp and it's still on my bucket list but let's hope for the best.
Merry Christmas,

Hey Mike, I had a couple of those old Standel tube amps in the sixties which were really great. What most of us used to do with them was get a "Y" chord and plug the steel or guitar into both channels at once. It really "fattened" up the sound and gave you more volume and punch. Unfortunately the last tube Standel I had got stolen from my car. It was a model that looked something like yours and had a 15" JBL speaker. I later had a couple of Standel solid state amps but they just didn't have the sound of the old tube models!.....JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

That looks super! One of the Standel S80s I owned was the best amp I've ever played through. Probably built right around the same time as yours--'60 or '61. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Chris,
This amp is all tube, except fot the solid state rectifier. It has 2 6DQ6 power tubes and 4 12ax7.
Mike
Thanks for the compliment, I think this amp is a 1960 model. I originally got to use with my Clinesmith, but I played it on a session yesterday with E9 pedal steel and really liked the unique sound with it also. I would think its very close to the S80, I believe the 4th 12ax7 is used for the Vibrato.
