I have found a great improvement in sustain, and smoother pedal and lever actions after I replaced all 20 fingers on the E9 changer of my 1971 Emmons P/P.
Also, less bar rattle due to uneven string heights caused by wear and tear of the tops of the fingers.
A word of warning, though..... If you've never done this kind of thing before, i strongly urge you to rather send it to a reputable repair guy. There are a few on the forum..... Billy Cooper, Jerry Rollins, Mr Bowman.....I'm sure the guys will help you out with a name for somebody closer to where you are. _________________ 1970 P/P Emmons D10 flatback 8x5, BJS Bar, J F picks, Peavey Session 500, Telonics pedal. Steven,
Nic is correct. I usually find the axles in very poor condition when I tear into an Emmons PP. You don't necessarily have to replace the fingers, unless they are too far gone. The axles are really not that expensive and should be replaced if needed and not just turned around 180 degrees and reused (like I've seen way too many times). _________________ Best regards,

yep, my '72 fatback is due for axles n fingers soon as i can spring. I'd expect some reviving of sparkle and sing. sorry bout the rhyme. Ideally both fingers and axle should be replaced as the inner dia of the aluminum fingers will certainly have undergone even more wear. only way to bring back that new factory slip fit.
i have Paul Redmond make my parts. He'd be using harder nitrited axles. |

I forgot to mention that I also replaced the axle. By the look of things, I guessed that neither the fingers, nor axle, has been replaced since birth.....(the axle was heavily worn on one side only - strings 3, 5 & 6).....which makes me wonder whether replacing those parts with different metals than the original , is a wise move.... The subject of different metal against metal interaction has been covered in an earlier post. _________________ 1970 P/P Emmons D10 flatback 8x5, BJS Bar, J F picks, Peavey Session 500, Telonics pedal.
