I'm working on George Strait's "FIREMAN" in "D". I need a siren sound. What do you recommend and how?
While I'm asking, also, an air horn for later reference???
Thanks in advance, TommyG... _________________ Mullen SD-10 RP, Evans SE-200, Line 6 POD XT, Peterson Flip Tuner, Geo. L Cable, Hilton Pedal, and D2F Covers for all. |

For the siren I always used the 4th string (E). It doesn't matter what key you're in because you're sliding up & down the neck. You can start from the 3rd or 4th fret and go up to about the 15th then slide back a few frets. Just work on it until you get it the way you like it. For the air horn I use strings 9 & 10 together. I can't remember if I use the A pedal or not. Just slide from the first fret to the second. If you can use a little light distortion it works also. It always sounds more realistic in a band situation (unless you have a real siren of air horn on stage). |

I always start on the 1st string so I don't get noise from the next string over,I also tilt the bar so I'm using the nose.2nd fret has a nice 911 thing to it.I once saw Sneaky Pete do a great French Cop car sound along with a whole zoo of other noises...Amazing he wuz! _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5... Tommy, Stuart has the tab of a ride for "the Fireman" he wrote for me that includes a siren and an air horn.
He said he'll find in his Tabledit files and transcribe it to the key of D. most folks seem to do it in G or A. When he finds it in a little while he said I could post it here. |

Stuart hasn't had the time to get the tab together so until he does I'll just give you an off the top of my head tab of the style of sirens and air horn that are in his tab version.
This is where you go from a D chord to an A chord with sirens.
The secret is in the phrasing and sliding on the sirens and quick staccato on the air horn but with a little experimenting it should all fall into place.
The A & B are Emmons E9 and the F raises the E's a half step.

Bo Here is the way I do the intro. It loosely follows the fiddle kick.
Hope it's helpful. God Bless, Whip
BTW, This is in the key of "A". _________________ Whip Lashaway

Nicely done Whip. I think most folks sing the song in A or G. |

whatever key you're in with pedals AB, go back 2 frets, lower E & hit strings 8 & 10 _________________ Franklin #130, Melobar Skreemer, Wechter Scheerhorn Resonator, Nashville 112, Boss DD 3 |
