This is a tip i got from the Gibson company many years ago and it works for steels also. When taking a steel from a cold car into a bar or what ever open the case about half way and fan it up and down,rapid opening and closing the case. Do this a few times opening the case a little more each time.
This also keeps the finish from streaking or craking.I have taken my steel out of a cold trailer,what ever in the middle of winters in N.D. at 30 below and never damaged one yet.And it can be tuned much sooner.
Now if any one tells you thier steel,guitar,what ever never gets out of tune it doesn't have metal strings on it.
