I've worked on my old ShoBud a lot and on my current BMI but I've never set up an MSA. It has two lowers and two raises per string.

What I'd like to know is of the two raise holes and places on the bellcrank, which one would you put the rod for the longest pull of the two and also on the lowers, which would you use for the lower which traveled farther. One lower on the 12th string E drops to C# for a tone and a half lower so which hole would that go in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll going to take all the rods out of the guitar and start from scratch and I want to get it right the first time...........Thanks, JH in Va.

The good people at Carter have great information on their website dealing with setting up steel guitars. Check out "Rodding" on this page: http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/infoindex.html

And the MCI owner's manual is a wealth of info. Very detailed charts for setting up a MCI, and the MSA is very similar. That can be found on this page: http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/downloads/OwnersManuals/index.html

I believe there's detailed info on the usage of the holes in both the fingers, and bell cranks for the desired response under "Adjustments">"Action/Feel": http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/adjustments/action_ss/adjustaction.html

Again, all info courtesy of Carter Steel Guitars.
