That's going to be one big happy jam for Harold, but nothing like he's having now with all his friends who passed before him. |

I wish I could be there with everyone for the celebration of Harold's life.
Those of us who knew Harold really appreciated his fine talent on the steel plus all the other instruments he played along with his great vocalizing.
Mary and I will always remember Harold with great fondness of Aloha. Our sincerest condolences to Robert and ohana.

I enjoyed Harold's friendship for 21 years. He was a delight, an enjoyable conversationalist and a talented muscian and singer.
He holds a special place in my heart and will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Aloha Ke Akua,
Don |

It is sad that we have lost another one. On our last trip we went to Hawaii Calls and Harold was playing rhythm guitar. I visited the Halekulani, with my little tape recorder and recorded Harold playing steel. In speaking with him, I said that night was our last aloha. I listened to the tape back at the hotel and really enjoyed what I heard, it was clear of a lot of conversation that was around. The next night, back to the Halekulani, more taping and Harold said " Hey! I thought last night was your last aloha." and I said "it was until I played the tape and heard what you did and I am here for more of that" and added " You do pretty well for a young one." I asked about Jules and the tuning he used and apparently they were great mates and he said " Jules was crazy " and I said " Pardon?"
and he said " No, not like that. He would change his tuning every week. He would say to me, hey! Harold, what do you think of this tuning? " and would talk about the chords he could get. Next week, different tuning, different chords. I said that he seemed to get around for a young fellow, Hawaii Calls, Halekulani, where else? and he said he does a couple of gigs a week, "that's enough, any more and it is too much like a job." Meeting people while on holiday makes the holiday and I am so glad that I met and had a lot of laughs with Harold. It is hard to imagine him being serious, especially with that wonderful smile. |
