An early Christmas surprise indeed. Last night I went to visit my friends Tammy (Rugg), Brooke and Jack Klinefelter as I always try to do when in Nashville. We had a wonderful visit and much to my surprise they gave me Hal's black and turquoise D-10
Zumsteel. This is the guitar that Hal pretty much played the last ten years or so of his life. I was so shocked and honored. Hal, Vicky and family had been like a second family to me since I was in middle school with two of the Rugg kids. Tammy didn't want to sell Hal's gear but wanted this guitar to be played. And I will play it on some of my live jobs and recordings. Thank you Tammy and family for allowing me to be the keeper of this great treasure. Wow, I have Curly's guitar and Hal's. God is good isn't he!!!

I can't wait to set it up and play it. It's been five years since it's been played. A new set of strings may be in order.

There are the significant items that one generation passes to the next, and are precious. I can't think of anyone more deserving of this one than you, John. Congrats, you are among the blessed. Smile

What a great honor, I never met Hal but was very moved when I did a search and found this video. We all know what a wonderful player he was but I think this video also shows what kind of man he was. Congrats on the ZUM, it sounds like you are the right man to have it.
