having known the Wiesner psgs, i can only confirm that Schild is a quality builder
the downside are :
imo pins but no slots at end of changer
& the prices :
5720 Swiss francs = 5860 $ for an S10
6590 Swiss francs = 6780 $ for an S12
9130 Swiss francs = 9400 $ for a D10
to which you'll have to add transport & import tax
there's a used S10 4 sale at 1500 $ which imo is a bargain :

Schild's half stop is quite innovative & reliable

I saw one of Peter Schild's first pedal steel guitars, courtesy of an introduction to him by Hans Holtzherr.

Peter is a first class engineer and a lateral thinker. He doesn't follow the herd when it comes to designing his instruments.

That 2 way half stop is a wonderful innovation. Maybe the most significant development since the invention of tunable splits.

I checked out the website, I'm just curious:
Is this gtr sorta Sierra-ish? Aluminum body/wood necks? Am I close? No?
Looks great, muy expensive. Confused

Is there any connection between Schild and the Swiss made steel Lionel Wendling plays? (Wiesner I think).

Has any other builder looked at that 2 way half stop? It seems that they would all want to incorporate this feature into their guitars.

Even if they do, wouldn't they be metric, and not fit on an American made steel?

Stu, Wolfgang said he sold them for use in any PSG, so, yes. Just contact him...

Mike, it will of course make all US made steels go out of tune, but don't they already? Razz Laughing

Not for me personally, Patrick, (I don't have any half stops,) but for all the manufacturers and builders who want to make their guitars better.

it is indeed

from Schild's history page :
Paul Wiesner's (or his mechanic's) legacy to the steel guitar world was not his copied guitar but the two-way halfstop
here's the original model from JY Lozach's Wiesner
sorry for the out of focus pic
you can see it on lower left bottom hand on 2nd pic
it's a piston w: a ball bearing in the middle (which can be adjusted) that makes the half stop

I wish I'd thought of that, it's so simple its scary. Assuming there is a tension spring on the side away from the plunger and one over the ball bearing that falls into a 360 degree "V" grove around the plunger. Looks like he'd be selling a lot of those. Would make any half stop positive with little drag or added pressure. Me thinks!
