Does anyone know who played steel on Little Feat's Willin'? |

I'm pretty sure Sneaky Pete Kleinow played on LF's Willin'. It's been a while since I've heard it though. |

Yes it's Sneaky Pete on the "Willin'" version, which is on the "Sailing Shoes" album.
There is also an earlier one with Ry Cooder on slide guitar. |

Two versions:
1st album, Ry Cooder on slide
2nd album, Sneaky Pete on steel
edit. I guess we were typing simultaneously, Joachim. _________________ Olli Haavisto

Which Little Feat album are you talking about? Lowell George's original or something else? |

Presumably Walter is referring to the second version with Pete on steel.
The first Little Feat album was simply entitled Little Feat.
The second Little Feat album was entitled Sailin' Shoes.
These each contained a version of Willin' as written above, and they are from the early 70's with Lowell George.
Then there are live versions which have come out since.
I like Linda's version and a whole bunch of other versions, but to me, hearing Lowell sing it is the definitive Willin'. _________________ Mark |

I also loved the;"Commander Cody & the Lost Planet Airmen's" version with Ernie Hagar on pedal steel. |

OK,
My favorite after the Sailin`Shoes version is Gene Parsons` folky take on the Kindling album. Which, BTW, is a country-rock masterpiece.
Seriously underrated ! _________________ Olli Haavisto

It was Sneaky Pete on Linda Ronstadt's version of 'willin' from the Heart like a Wheel album (1974). |
