I've had the best luck with the upper-midrange/treble structure of the HiWatt 100 and the oldest, biggest Marshall models - but with the first gain turned super-low, like 20 of 100 or so. The engineers who build these things often view a Fender Twin as a 65-watt tube amp that just needs to start distorting at 5 or 6, so it's worth looking at the big 100's.

I do always have some attenuating device first (usually a Hilton VP with the volume adjustment) and I do always slap a certain amount of compression on, depending on whether or not these same engineers knew that tube heads compress like a mother.

(Hey, Ma!... never mind....)

On my POD XT I use the Plexi 100 or Plexi Jump Lead settings for steel. I love that nasty midrange 'honk'. Very Happy

Which model pod are you using ? I've got a Pod Pro and the 2.0 kidney bean and I've been using the Vox AC30.
