I've been really working hard on this book for the last few weeks and I'm close to having it completed. The book/audio CD will hopefully be ready for January 2011. I must say, this has been a revelatory experience!
I've arranged a number of Bebop heads for C6 lap steel (most are playable on a 6 string, some are require an eight string), from Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, etc., in the original keys. This is the most challenging thing I've ever played on lap steel, but it is so rewarding in many ways.
I've played these heads in every conceivable way and I was able to really narrow it down to very specific moves in order to preserve the bebop inflections. That is the key to this whole project: it is not about just making the notes, but making the notes swing with the type of inflection they are meant to have and laying it all out so you can play it up to tempo with practice. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links

Count me in! I still am nowhere near digesting and absorbing your earlier lessons, but a hungry man would rather have to much to chew on than not enough.
I am thankful for your beautiful obsession. |

Is the book going to be notation only? |

The tablature is really the whole ball of wax in this book--there will be tab and notation, though, including all right hand picking fingering. It is very specific--it has to be.
Otherwise, I'd just say "go get a Real Book".
(although there are a bunch of mistakes in there!) _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Howard, if you were using a 6 string, then it should be tuned to C6 with an E on top because you will need the lower C string and maybe even the A string. If you were using an 8 string, then the high G C6 tuning would be fine, except that there will be nothing written for that string; however, one might find a way to incorporate it, as well. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |
