I've done an hour of archive searches concerning this, found some info about pot and cap values, rewired per Rick Aiello's recommendations and find that the pots are interactive. I can completely shut down the volume with the tone pot. I've checked and rechecked the schematic and it all seems correct.
What's the deal?
Thanks.

Hi Joe,
if you can shut down the volume with the tone pot, it might be a faulty capacitor with an internal short.
Or maybe the capacitor wires are somehow shorted out when you push the wiring into the control cavity?

Without knowing exactly how you wired it, it's hard to say what the problem is. It could be a bad capacitor or a miswired pot or?

Sounds like Peter is right. Likely an old, shorted capacitor. Try another and see what happens.

From your drawing, it would have to be the capacitor.

Is one type of capacitor recommended over another for this application?
Thx.

Haven't had time to get a new cap, with gigs and trying to get some outdoor home improvement projects done before the snow flies. I'll let 'cha know. Maybe this week.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

These capacitors are good enough for Vintage Vibes.
Buy a couple and you can connect them in series or parallel to test different values.

I don't get it, but no matter what I do, I get the same results. I've redone this several times with different caps and pots, looked at multiple schematics and still no change. Frustrating.....such a simple circuit....oh well, I've got volume control anyway!

Maybe you could post a picture of your wiring?

Joe, if you can't get it right, I am happy to swap my Rickenbacher Ace for your B6. Laughing
