Twice tonight during the 1st game of the World Series they were indicating that the ball hit was a single to right field and the right fielder made an error, allowing the runner to get to 2nd. They refer to this as β€œSingle E9” which happens to be the guitar I play – a single neck E9.

Ok, I can see it was a "single" "error". What does the 9 indicate?

9 is the number of the player in box scoring. The players are numbered 1-9...#1 is the pitcher. #9 is right field. etc

I thought "error" was a technical pedal steel term...
