Does anyone have an easy source for the ball-socket type linkage that is used to offset Sho-Bud knee levers away from the cross shaft. Trying to add a James Morehead knee lever kit and already have too many cross shafts in the way. It looks a lot like an automotive throttle linkage, but none of my local auto-parts places carry anything like it.

I am surprised that James Morehead doesn't have them!

James, if you have these parts, please chime in. I would much prefer to get these from a forum member, especially the one who does such superb work saving the Buds. I am very happy with the parts I've ordered from James before and he does a wonderful job. It just seemed to me that ball joint parts were not custom made items like knee levers, end plates or changer fingers, but more of an off the shelf hardware bin type parts like nuts and bolts and screws. I thought may be someone had looked for them before and knows where to find them. I am willing to be corrected if my impression is wrong.

You might be able to use these Geo. L's ball and socket pedal rod connectors. They are 10-32 threads. You could thread 3/16" steel rod for linkage if you have a few hand tools. http://www.georgelsstore.com/steelacc.html

Your local Ace hdwe store will have something similar, more commonly called tie rod end connectors, but they do not disconnect like the ones above do.

If the one's you are talking about, use a plastic "snap-on and off" ball joint connector, you can purchase these from Small Parts, 1-800-220-4242. The part number is "B-JSN-9" for 10-32 or "B-JSN-10" for 1/4-20.

They are the only source I know of that carries them. Sadly Amazon is taking them over and they may no longer carry them. Note: Amazon changed all the part numbers of Small Parts. BUT...if you put the number above in their search box, they will cross reference it for you. IF they have them.

I hope they still do for your sake.

Yes Carl, 10-32. (I was editing as you were posting. Ha!)
Most builders use the metal ones now, as Amazon dropped the black plastic delrin snap on connectors we all love. They did that about a year and a half ago. I tracked down the manufactuer who made them for small parts, and they would make a run of them again, if I was willing to buy a quadralazillion of them, and of course, pay up front.

These metal ones are also used on pedal rods.

Thank you James.

I am sorry to hear that they are no longer available.

Tell ya why. The metal ones tend to have a we bit of play. The "snap-ons" did not. And I have used them in other places where any play was intolerable.

Oh well Crying or Very sad

Only in heaven will nothing ever break again; AND if ya ever needed 'inahthin', just reach out and grab it; And it is 100% free of charge; and that is forever. Praise His holy name.

Thanks again James,

Another source for ball/socket joints is your local hobby shop serving radio control car and plane enthusiasts. I bought some smaller ones a while back to rework a trombone valve linkage. The socket (for sure) and maybe the ball were plastic.
