Can a person connect an 8 ohm extension speaker to a NV400 by using aligator clips on the speaker terminals of the 4 ohm NV400 speaker without causing damage or is it a big no-no? It'd be nice to have an external speaker but I don't want to blow up the amp either.

| George...I believe that 4 0hms is the minimum recommended load for your amp, so unless you disconnect the BW before connecting the 8 0hm speaker, I would say no.... BTW..If I am not mistaken, doesn't your speaker connect by inserting the wires inside the red and black clips as opposed to having the external ears (for attaching the alligator clips)? |

You could run them in series.
It would cut your power in half or less, but shouldn't hurt the amp. |

Yes, David, you are correct. I should have said: inserting the wires into the same holes in the spring loaded posts.
Then if I didn't use the 4 ohm speaker, could I use two 8 ohm speakers then? I have two 8 ohm speakers in seperate cabinets and the power section of the NV400 in a cabinet made for me by Rick Johnson.
If I can't do it that way, I may try the way Steve suggests by running them in series.

I tried several differant speakers that I have from amps and PA and it worked fine. There sure was big differances in the sound of each combination.
I'm sure that Peavey had their reasons for not going with 8 ohm instead of 4 but for me, two 15's in seperate cabs spread out works the best.
