These zirc bars are awesome. I've been using mine exclusively since I got it. The zirconia material is harder than tool steel and literally smoother than chrome, so the bar glides quietly over the strings--the best sustain and tone I ever had. The bar is worth every penny.

Basil;

The short answer is a 7/8" X 3+1/2" would weigh in at about 185 Gms.

The bar length I gave is/was wrong...it should be 7/8" X 3+3/8".

The long, and general case answer is the Zirc density is 0.77 times tool steel (think BJS).

Steel density 7.80
Zirc Density 6.00
Zirc hardness Kg/mm2 1300
Zirc toughness MPa•m1/2 13

My black Zirc bar arrived in the mail today and I just love it. I almost ordered a second white one, but decided to go for the black this time. They just have a different feel then the steel bars. Soooo smooth. If you're on the fence about getting one, go for it. You won't be dissapointed.

I received my 15/16" about a month ago.

I really wanted a 7/8", but at the time they were not available.

If anyone is interested, I will ship them my 15/16" now (so they can have a bar ready to play now), and then they can order up a 7/8" and when it comes in or when they order they can drop ship it to me.

If interested let me know. No $ will exchange hands-even trade.

Recieved my shiny new black z-bar thursday,it also matches sn. with my white one. I love these bars, well worth the price, and very nice folks to deal with.Plays smooth as butter and a great tone.IMHO it don't get any better. I have a BJS Hughey 12 string bar that I also love as much. The z-bars are just as good ,but different. Rolling Eyes Bob

Yes Mickey, I think I know what you mean. When I tried one, I thought to myself, this is neat...so light!

But, I don't know. To me they are not a general or all purpose bar.
I too noticed a tonal change. IMHO, a bar has to have some weight to it(and hardness ie: Rockwell) for it to enhance sustain.
But, to each his own, Evidently there are several players that love them!

Im finding that in order to get the solid sustain that my heavy BJS bar gives me I have to press down a lot harder. I put gauged rollers on my G2s to try and lighten my touch...this kind of defeats that..But..Its still a fine bar...

Ditto that Mickey! I noticed the same thing.

It's hard to beat a solid BJS.............

I do think there is a place for the Zirc though............
