I'm looking for a lightweight 'around town' case for a D-10 and was wondering who is making them these days? Anyone have a recommendation? |

Have you checked with Bobbe Seymour? Some time back he commented about them saying either they could make one for you or knew where to have one made. |

I got mine (split case) from Woody Woodell a few years back but I have a feeling he didn't actually make mine - he acted as an intermediary. He used to do them, I believe, but maybe he still can get them. Carco Clave put me in touch with him; I bet he still can. He had a split case for his push/pull and swore by it.
Mine have been invaluable! A great way to carry a D-10. Carco told me he'd flown with his. They're lightweight, too. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

A quick PS:
If you do get a split case, take my tip and have the small case (for pedal-bar and legs, etc) made an inch or so shorter than the main case - then it'll fit inside the other and storage is so much simpler! My two halves are the same length - 'cause I didn't think of that until it was too late!
You can afford the reduced dimension because the smaller case doesn't need to have the foam padding, hence it can be shorter. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Thanks everyone. Keep 'em coming. Great idea about the sizing, Roger.

They're identical to mine! I bet Woody passed my request on to Dan, and it was Dan who actually made them.
I still wish I'd asked for a slightly shorter leg/p. rod case so it would fit inside the large one when not in use! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Newberry, SC: Is that where they have that egg-shaped water-tower? I love it! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

If I understood Danny correctly, he bought the assets of Woody Woodell's case business and started making the cases.
I have one of his Nashville 112 "cases".
Danny doesn't work for Bobbe Seymour anymore. He is registered on the forum so you should be able to send him an e-mail or forum Private Message (PM). |

Thanks, John - nice picture! When we lived in Asheville, NC 'The Egg' was a landmark on our way home sometimes. I thought it was Newberry but I wasn't certain....
The Egg is such a friendly icon! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

I have one that came with the Derby that I bought from Tommy Butler. He said it was bullet proof and much lighter. I hate to say it.. but Tommy never lies! I was skeptical but I love it. I would get another one should the occasion arise! _________________ Derby SD-10 4&5 Black!(duh)/

The early Franklin guitars came with Woody's fiber case. The first time I ever saw one, I was really concerned about the durability due to how lightweight it was. Like everyone mentions here, they are bulletproof. I don't know how many times I flew with mine and it held up extremely well. I have since had Woody build a seat case and a Melobar case for me. The material is terrific. Make sure it has several good coats of Spar Urethane, the material does not like water.

Danny had sent me the following link:
www.myspace.com/dandrcustomfibercases
Also this was the email I have on record:
tenn_cases@yahoo.com
The old Franklin cases that Woody made had a metal tongue and groove all the way around which I really liked. Also had the piano hinge back as well as the leg compartment.
When I first saw photos of Danny's steel cases, it made me long for the old type that Woody made. Woody's just seemed a bit more "finished out". But, in all fairness to Danny, I played a gig and saw Tommy Butler's case that Danny built, and the lights went off. In person, the thing really looked like the perfect utility case. And to top it off, Tommy flew to the gig with it. Said he had been flying with the case, and had no trouble at all. It was the only case that kept him under the weight limit. If I remember correctly, Tommy packed some foam between the undercarriage and the lid. He said this totally protected the undercarriage. Cannot remember if he flew the legs in his suitcase.
For anyone who would want a different selection, I found the link below night before last. I was surfing out of curiosity before I knew this thread existed. Look at the second and third photo, the wood case may offer more protection for flying.
