Meant to post this yesterday, I was thinking about it at work and then spaced out. October 4, 1970.

I saw her a few times, including her last concert August 12, 1970, a Summerthing concert at Harvard Stadium in Boston with the Full Tilt Boogie Band. Some time ago, I found audio from that show - not great quality, but still cool - http://www.janisjoplin.net/multimedia/sounds/

Seems like yesterday to me. I'd have posted this in "Gone Home", but it seems that only country singers are allowed there. Confused

The first concert I ever went to was to see Janis Joplin. Also with the full tilt boogie band. Santana, Joe Cocker and B.B. King also on the bill. She was great. But of course everyone was great. I was wearing elephant bells, 8 rows back center. Remember like it was yesterday

I agree on Big Brother. They may have been rough around the edges, but they were powerful, and it seemed at the time that she lost her way without them. I saw all three bands - Big Brother, whatever was happening in the middle, and Full-Tilt. Musically, Full-Tilt was great - probably even 'better' - but Big Brother had so much soul.

But really - Full-Tilt was cool too. That recording may be rough, but I was standing front-row just center of the stage-right front speaker system, and it was awesome in person. I think she was trying to get her shiite together. But that damned heroin - don't get me goin', I've seen it do a lotta damage.

i spent a winter at the Landmark hotel in LA where Janis died
this was before she passed on, but i'll tell you it was one crazy place
the first time in caught Janis was w: BB&H Co in Frisco 69 at the Fillmore
i caught here in Winterland as well & found here curled up under a staircase - at first i did'nt recognize her until asked if she was ok & she told to you know what
when i was a roadie for Johnny Winter (palm beach festival in Fla)she had the Full Tilt Boogies - true to Canadian tradition, they were a very good band
them drugs were all over the place peddled by the mo'fos in the horn section
Janis was one troubled soul alright - it's no wonder she went out the way she did
but then there were a lot of them at the time.... Winking
