Last week I showcased 16 different bluegrass bands at the Bluegrass Inn in Nashville Wed. throuh Friday. On Saturday I had a young country rock band from Florida along with Aaron Kelly, the young boy that came in fifth on the American Idol Show.
I really don't care much for the rock stuff so I spent much of the time out in front of the BG Inn which is right next to Robertsl. All of a sudden Lower Broad started sounding like the mid-seventies when Julian Tharpe and Johnny Cox hung around andplayed in the area. The great steel playing was coming from Roberts. I haven't been around the steel community in several years and don't know most of the players. The player on the stage was flat kicking it. Even the fathers of the young rock band I had playing at Layla's were commenting on how great the steel player was and they don't know anything about steel. Yep...Mike Sweeney whom I had never met before. Great steel playing Mike. I mostly listened to Mike as I was hustling patrons into the Inn but you know where I would have rather been. Thanks for the musically great afternoon, Mike.

A few years ago I worked in a band that played Tootsies once in a while. The first thing I would do would go next and see if Mike was there. When he was that would always be the highlight of my trip to broadway. He is the REAL DEAL. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Dave, It was my pleasure meeting you yesterday. I thank you for the kind words. That's mighty tall company to put me in and I don't think I deserve it but I do appriciate it. Robert's is one of the 2 or 3 clubs down there that are steel friendly and I'm thankful to get to work there. I hope to see you again real soon. Come down when you can sit and relax.
Bama Charlie, When are you coming back up? It's been too long. Thanks for the kind words.

Yea, Mike you do deserve to be mentioned in the company of the ones above. Tone to the Bone. ANNNND him and his wife, Teresa, are great people also. So yea if I'm downtown I try to find Mike. Usually the best show on Broadway.

Your right about Mike , if he's playing it's going to be top level country.I love to hear him teamed up with James Mitchell.Pay real close when you listen to him and catch the little funny licks he throws in that the average person wouldnt notice.

Hey David,

I just play those silly little licks to get a grin out of James. It works every once in a while. Smile
